How to reach your target audience on Twitter
Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 11:39AM Three easy ways to find the people you want to reach on Twitter:
Know what your niche is!
This is the most important part of the process and without it you won't be able to gain any ground. It doesn't matter how big or small your niche is or how popular or unpopular it is because when you narrow it down (and button it down) you will be able to show followers what you are about.
Boil down your niche into a few keywords such as; blogging, tech, humor, comics, etc. With this you can seek them out in the next step.
Seek them out!
You can't expect to find the people you want to converse with without effort on your part. Expecting them to seek you out and follow you doesn't yield the best results.
What you need to do is search for the people you want to reach and follow them. If you are using a program like TweetDeck (which I recommend) you can have a search going for what ever keyword or keywords you want and can constantly be monitoring it. When someone tweets about "blogging" you will see it and decide if you want to follow them.
This is by far the fastest and easiest way to find the people you want to reach about your niche.
How to keep them as followers
Just because you are following them does not mean that they will do the same to you. To bring in the people you want to engage with - you need to show them what you are all about.
When you narrow down your niche this makes it easier for you to constantly Tweet about relevant topics that you are all about. When you do that it's easier for the person you just followed to understand who you are and why they should want to follow you back.
- Write a great bio for your Twitter profile
- Tweet consistently about topics in your niche
- Be social and engage with them
Twitter is a great way of connecting with people from all over the world that are interested in the types of things you are. Be yourself and be social and Twitter enlightenment will reach you!
It's really not that hard to find like minded people anywhere on any platform if you're creative, inspired and determined. However, try and make an effort to have fun on Twitter, this is why the service was created in the first place - enjoyment!
