Wibiya Toolbar Review
Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10:24PM So if you haven't already noticed I have installed a new toolbar called the Wibiya Toolbar that sits nice neat on the bottom of my website. Go ahead and play around with it, it's actually pretty cool.
Why I like it
It's incredibly easy to use, both for me (installing it and customizing it) and for you, the user. It's clean and completely customizable. I didn't want some of the non-obvious things like games or a real time activity updater and Wibiya didn't make me keep them.
It adds a bit of flare to my website I must admit. I'm not sure about the color scheme (I'm a guy, I hate making colors match) but regardless of all the design hoopla I still think it adds a bit of web 2.0 to my website. I also like the way it handles Twitter. When you pop open the Twitter tab it shows you all my tweets and takes the page you have open (either my homepage or a post like this one) and automatically shrinks the url which makes it easy for you to Tweet it out. Of all the features I think I like the Twitter one best as it flows and just looks great!
Why I don't like it
It's a little bit too easy and not as deep as I would have liked it. There a few things with the Twitter interface I would like to change such as automatically including an @ reply in the tweet for my Twitter account so I can monitor Tweets within my Twitter client.
This brings me to another point. There is a limited "stats viewer" on the website in a dashboard area that doesn't help me out too much. It's pretty and simple (not always a good thing) but it doesn't give you depth on info with any of the stats listed. For example, it will tell me that there are 24 tweets read. What this means I'm not sure and it doesn't tell me what tweets are read.
I'm going to keep it
All in all for a nice looking, easy to use toolbar with a lot of cool features this one is an obvious choice. I haven't tried anything else like this so I can't compare. On it's own and judging it like I've never seen anything like it before I do like it and will keep it.
